Levelset partnered with American Family Insurance (AmFam) in 2020 to build on the company’s strong commitment to Fair Chance hiring and help set company-wide standards of excellence.

Early in the project, AmFam established a Fair Chance working group that included members of the talent acquisition team, communications team, and leadership from the American Family Institute for Corporate and Social Impact. Through the Institute, AmFam has a unique center of gravity for its Fair Chance work, and developed a position that was largely focused on improving and growing AmFam’s Fair Chance practices.

The Levelset team worked closely with AmFam in three primary areas: updating policies and practices, building candidate pipelines, and communicating AmFam’s Fair Chance work internally.

We began working with Bojangles’ Restaurants in the  spring of 2019 to implement a new model for recruiting and hiring people with past convictions. This included adapting its application process, hiring matrix and review protocols to reduce exclusions and partnering with community organizations and reentry programs to help develop a pipeline of candidates and build wraparound support for employees with past convictions.

AmFam’s strong internal capacity and commitment to Fair Chance hiring created an opportunity for Levelset to bring in national best practice and support the company to continuously improve its practices and serve as a model for the industry.
